Iceni Botanical Artists are delighted to be exhibiting work in the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral this autumn. The theme - Celebrating the life of Queen Etheldreda: Herbals and Harvest - relates to the Cathedral's own celebration of 1350 years since Saint Etheldreda first established a monastery in Ely in AD 673. The exhibition will feature paintings relating to Etheldreda, of herbs from the Cathedral's recently established Physic Garden, and to the Harvest Festival happening at the same time.Formed in 2010, Iceni Botanical Artists’ highly talented membership currently stands at 30, and includes several nationally distinguished award winning artists in the field. All its members live in either Norfolk, Suffolk or Cambridgeshire and painting styles vary from classical, botanically accurate plant portraits to broader interpretations of botanical forms and landscapes. Watercolour is the main choice of medium although oil, acrylic, graphite and ink also feature. All the work exhibited will be for sale, as well as cards, prints and calendars. There are also two tutored day workshops during the exhibition for those interested in either having a taster in botanical art or to further develop their skills for those more experienced. The themes for the two days are “Drawing in Ink” and “Design and Paint an Illuminated Letter” which can be booked through the Cathedral Box Office. For more information about the artists and examples of their recent work please refer to www.icenibotanicalartists.co.ukample Text
